My practice encompasses a number of themes surrounding the human experience and the perception of touch. Dealing with the complexities of togetherness, my work examines people’s need for kinetic connection and how body language influences the way we communicate with one another.
The work explores psychophysical dialogues in a very theatrical way. Through distortion, I curate the figures in my work as a way of delving into what it means to have a body. How important physical connectivity is to a person’s emotional life. There is always a balance that I aim to reach in my imagery, to create a push and pull, how the figures also interact with the edge of the canvas frame, gazes at once challenging and comforting, they often include the viewer in their interaction.
What has always been a constant in my work is my fascination with hands. Forms that touch and feel, tools of creation, instruments of executive action, they allow us to manipulate the world and keep us connected with one another. In the paintings they are like stepping stones to how the viewer might decipher the paintings, they enhance the uncanny ambience I strive to portray in my pursuit to depict human emotion.
