My work is about the experience of reality and how exposure to popular culture and digital media, particularly in early life, lenses that experience. For this reason I use subjects that I have already internalised without meaning to, usually cliched or universal things that I am able to render freely from my imagination. I find it interesting how in one sense they can be read almost hieroglyphically, but in another, through their ubiquitous cultural presence, become strangely empty, like a word repeated too many times. This complexity allows the works to be experienced on their own terms, as empty vessels or liminal spaces, for the viewer to enter and explore.
